Digitized Uruguay: 87% of its companies sell online

Between August 10 and 12, eCommerce Day Uruguay Blended was held online . It was a regional event of the eCommerce Institute, which had the local collaboration of the Chamber of the Digital Economy of Uruguay .

Professionalization of the retail industry
More than 1,000 people had the opportunity to participate and leave their impressions; this was possible thanks to the event platform over 3 consecutive days. The themes were aimed at the professionalization of the retail industry , where great exponents of the digital world intervened with their experiences.

It was through Guillermo Varela, who is President, CEDU and founder of Handsoft & Plexo, that it was possible to learn what the current reality is like and the strategies they wish to insert to elevate the sector.

According to the president of Handsoft & Plexo , the most important criteria presented at the event were:

Generalized growth in online sales . Thanks to the evolution of commercial and digital sources, 87% of organizations have online sales mechanisms .

Payments through credit cards are usually common. For example, Uruguay is one of the few nations that uses credit cards, this as the main means of payment and accounting for 69% . Next, 14 % goes to debit cards .

Regarding advertising investment, during 2020 there was an investment by companies of around 56% in social networks ; Meanwhile, in 2021 the percentage decreased slightly to 53% . Both Google Search and digital influencers provided great results for companies.
