Is masturbation a sin?

Hi, I am 13 years old and i tried masturbating for the first time. Since i come from a religious family (I'm Christian), I feel like I sinned or upset God.


So basically, all i want to know is masturbation a sin?

It's normal to feel guilty after masturbating, especially when it is so new. Masturbation is something that is rarely talked about so teens can often think they are weird or doing something 'bad'.


Whilst I can't tell you exactly the Christian view of masturbating, I can tell you that masturbating is normal and most people do it (teens and adults!)


Some people think only guys do it but this isn't the case at all. Females have these urges too and masturbating is a good way to relieve these urges and also explore and understand your body.


It is unlikely that many Christians will view masturbating as a sin as it is a very normal thing to do and involves just yourself. If you still want to find out more, perhaps there is a youth worker or someone within the church that you can talk to about this privately? They might be able to explain a bit more about the Christian view of masturbating.
