When do we use Present Simple Tense?

1. When the action happens regularly or "Repetitive actions."

Marry goes shopping every weekend.
I usually take a bus to school.
I never want to see you again.
-- There are usually "adverb of frequency" in this type of sentence.--

2. When the situation is true or always true.

The sun rises from the East.
I love you (well, at least, it is meant to be true.)

I am going to be crazy soon.
He is going to talk to his boss tomorrow.

Present Perfect Tense


Present Perfect Tense is one of the most often use in all English Grammar Tenses and yet one of the tense that most difficult to understand. The Present Perfect Tense is used to explain the action that happen since the past and continue until present time.

Present Perfect Continuous Tense


We use Present Perfect Continuous Tense in two scenarios. The first one is that it uses with the action that has just stopped.

The second one is for the situation that happen in the past and continue until the moment

When do we use Present Perfect Continuous Tense

1. When the situation happened in the past and is continuing until the present

I have been typing this letter for 2 hours now (still typing while saying.)

2. When the situation happened in the past and just ended a short moment ago.

I have been typing this letter for 2 hours now (just finish typing while saying.)
John has been waiting for marry for 3 hours (just see John stop waiting while saying.)

When do we use Past Simple Tense?

1. When the situation happened and already finished in the past.

• I lived in Hungary two years ago.
• John went to ABC shopping mall with Marry last weekend.
  

Past Simple Tense is used with time indicator words as below example.

• Last XX
• once
• etc.
  

2. With the repetitive action happens and finished in the past .

When there are two situation happened in the past. The one that occur first uses past perfect and the later one uses past simple.

When do we use Past Perfect Tense

When there are two situations happened in the past. Using "Past Perfect Tense" with the situation that happened first and using Past Simple Tense with another situation.

She had gone already when I arrived.
He asked me whether I had been to China before.
John told me that he had waited for Marry for 2 hours.

When do we use Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Similar to Past Perfect Tense, it is used when there are two situations happened in the past. Using "Past Perfect Continuous Tense" with the situation that happened first and using Past Simple Tense with another situation.

However, Past Perfect Continuous Tense is used to highlight the first actions more than Past Perfect Tense or to give the feeling that the first action is happened for quite a long time.

John told me that he had been waiting for Marry for 2 hours.

When do we use Future Tense

When the situation is going to happen in the future.

I will go to see the doctor next week.
John will not be able to move until next month due to his injury.
Will you marry me?
She will fly to India next year.
